The first HomeFront Day was held in the spring of 1988, six years after AmeriCares came into being, as a way to help fill needs at home. It was the goal of AmeriCares Founder Bob Macauley to have a positive impact on housing issues. In its first year, the HomeFront program completed 16 projects, working only in Norwalk.

Since that time, the program

• has had more than 2,400 teams
• completed nearly 2,200 projects
• operated in close to 150 communities in 4 CT and 2 NY Counties
• delivered more than $30M in donated products and services
• relied on the generosity of tens of thousands of volunteers and the skills of countless building and remodeling trade professionals to deliver free home repairs to low-income homeowners

Not only is HomeFront the first of three AmeriCares domestic assistance programs to come into existence, but also today it is the largest volunteer-driven of the programs.
