Coldwell Banker Raises $28,000 for HomeFront

Stamford, Conn.  –  Coldwell Banker’s Raise the Roof Bash and golf and tennis tournament raised $28,000 for AmeriCares HomeFront program. More than 120 people participated in the June 23 fund-raiser at Burning Tree Country Club in Greenwich organized by Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage Cares Foundation. After an afternoon of golf and tennis, guests enjoyed a gala cocktail reception and bid on 35 silent auction items including Tiffany & Co. jewelry, a river cruise in Germany and a weekend for two at the Equinox Resort in Manchester Village, Vt. Additional prizes were raffled off, and participants bid on sports memorabilia during a live auction.

“Proceeds from the tournament will allow us to fix up the homes of dozens of needy families in New York and Connecticut, improving their quality of life for years to come,” said HomeFront Executive Director Sean O’Brien. “Oftentimes these repairs make the difference for families that would otherwise be forced to move out.”

The fund-raiser was organized by a team of Coldwell Banker real estate agents in Greenwich. Karen Brody, Jackie Budkins, Susan Calabrese, Mindy Chanaud, Bob Haugen, Robin Lifshin, Sally Parris and Joe Valvano served on the Raise the Roof Committee. In May, Coldwell Banker agents teamed up with volunteers from York Construction and Development of Old Greenwich to fix up a house in Greenwich owned by a man with degenerative arthritis.

HomeFront is a community-based program that provides free home repairs to low-income residents in Connecticut and Westchester County, N.Y. Thousands of volunteers participate in HomeFront Day each year, fixing homes that have fallen disrepair. Since HomeFront began in 1988, skilled craftsman and enthusiastic volunteers have performed more than $33 million in repairs to nearly 2,300 homes. Many of the recipients are senior citizens on fixed incomes, single parents, and people with mental or physical challenges, including life-threatening illnesses. HomeFront teams paint, replace doors and windows, install new roofing, build wheelchair ramps, fix plumbing, clear debris from yards and more. Since most of the labor is donated, each $2,500 contribution allows HomeFront to make $13,000 worth of repairs for needy homeowners.
