Press Releases For More Information: Preparing for 20th Annual HomeFront Day Stamford, CT, April 30, 2007 - Thousands of local neighborhood volunteers will transform homes in their communities and improve countless lives on Saturday, May 5, 2008, for the 20th annual AmeriCares HomeFront Day. This event represents the culmination of weeks of preparation where more than 80 participating volunteer groups will revitalize 75 nearby homes for senior citizens, single-parents, people with disabilities, and low-income families who desperately need home repairs. In addition, this year some groups will repair local community centers. HomeFront's mission is to enable neighbors in need to remain in their homes but to make them safe and comfortable by providing quality of life repairs at no cost to the owner. Most repairs are done on this one day, May 5th. Including this year's projects, HomeFront volunteers have repaired nearly 2,200 homes in Connecticut's Fairfield, Hartford, New Haven, and Litchfield counties as well as New York's Westchester County. Neighbors from all walks of life come out to make these home improvements possible. In addition to participating faith-based, civic, and corporate volunteer groups, building professionals lend their expertise and labor. Manufacturers and retailers also generously donate a portion of the construction materials. Individual, foundation and corporate donors provide the financial backing to support the annual event. Experts from the Emmy-award winning television program, "This Old House" are participating for the tenth consecutive year and bringing along a crew of 50 behind the scenes colleagues from the home improvement series, as well as volunteers from This Old House magazine and thisoldhouse.com to assist a young Norwalk family. General contractor Tom Silva, heating and plumbing expert Rich Trethewey and their crew will use their remodeling expertise in an effort to make a difference in this community.
