volunteering opportunities with AmeriCares HomeFrontAmeriCares HomeFront is the largest  volunteer-based community program undertaken by the AmeriCares Foundation each year. HomeFront volunteer opportunities exist year-round, primarily at our headquarters location in Stamford, CT, but also in the communities where we serve. In terms of assisting on a home repair project, we generally don’t know which teams might need individual volunteers to supplement their ranks until mid-April.

We encourage individuals to explore the possibility of forming a team through their business and other professional, faith-based or civic affiliations.

Within the communities we serve, district captains, home evaluators, house captains and team leaders, both skilled and unskilled, are needed to help us carry out our mission. More than skill, that which is needed is a desire to serve and an interest in helping others. You’re sure to make some good friends along the way, and hopefully, have a little fun, coupled with the personal satisfaction involved in completing key work assignments.

District Captain/Home Evaluators – This is a great opportunity for the individual who wants to make the greatest impact in his or her community. There is currently an urgent need for these volunteers in Greater Hartford and the upper and eastern portions of Westchester County, New York. These individuals should know their community well, be able to conduct homeowner evaluations, and be capable of managing other volunteer home evaluators within their district, following a training seminar led by AmeriCares. This is the longest annual volunteer commitment.  Work begins with home evaluations early in the fall and continues as they provide guidance to team leaders in their area as HomeFront Day approaches in May.

House Captain – This is the volunteer team leader in charge of prioritizing HomeFront Day tasks, ordering materials in the weeks leading up to HomeFront Day, and overseeing the physical labor and safety of the volunteers at their project site. This person may, but need not, be a skilled contractor, as long as the individual has some knowledge of home repairs.

We’re often asked if a youth group can help our teams. Due to insurance requirements, team volunteers must be 14 years of age or older to participate in HomeFront Day activities. Adult supervision is imperative.

At the program headquarters in Stamford, office volunteers of diverse skills are needed year-round to help make HomeFront a success. We seek volunteers to work on product solicitation, information gathering, research, mailings, data entry and to provide general office support.

For more information about these volunteer opportunities, please click here to fill out our sign-up sheet,  or email us or call toll-free at (800) 887-HOPE (4673) or locally in Stamford at (203) 658-9500. Ask to speak with our Administrative Manager Liz Sheridan.
